Gannenmono People of the First Year - Talk Story Session
This year we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Gannenmono, the first group of Japanese who were brought to Hawai‘i to work in the sugar plantations as contract workers. Who were the Gannenmono? Why did they come to Hawai‘i? What were their experiences? What’s the significance and legacy of the Gannenmono? This event is free and open to the public.
